Create a Diamond Feast! The 2023 Diamond Cultivation Exhibition will be held in Zhengzhou with “brilliance”
On September 20th, the 6th Abrasive Grinding Exhibition and the 2023 Diamond Cultivation Exhibition were held in Zhengzhou, with over 30000 visitors, showcasing dazzling diamonds, uniquely shaped jewelry, and bustling crowds. Among them, the 2023 Cultivated Diamond Exhibition is the first domestically created cultivation diamond exhibition targeting the consumer end, with an area of over 2000 square meters. A batch of cultivated diamond jewelry is exhibited and sold here, creating a diamond feast for consumers.
Jewelry and jewelry shine brilliantly, cultivating diamonds and receiving numerous positive reviews
What is cultivating diamonds? A gemstone grade diamond single crystal with a certain standard in color, weight, and purity in artificial diamonds can be used as a breeding diamond. Cultivating diamonds is a gemstone grade large single crystal diamond synthesized by artificially simulating natural diamond crystallization conditions and growth environments, using scientific methods. It has advantages such as cost-effectiveness, compliance with environmental trends, and diverse styles.
There is a popular analogy: cultivated diamonds and natural diamonds are like ice in a refrigerator and ice in Antarctica, the only difference lies in the formation of the environment. The sales price of cultivated diamond jewelry is about 30% to 50% of the sales price of natural diamond jewelry of the same grade. As an emerging force in the jewelry field, it has won the love of many younger generations with its high cost-effectiveness and plasticity.
On the morning of the 20th, at the entrance of the 2023 Diamond Cultivation Expo, the Life Gem exhibition area was crowded with tourists. Children’s fetal hair, pet hair, and loved ones’ hair can all be cultured and customized with carbon to create their own diamonds. The introduction by the on-site staff attracted the attention of many exhibition visitors.
“I first heard about the concept of life gemstones, which can be made into a unique diamond with just a few grams of hair. It’s so romantic to keep the precious things I care about by my side in another form.” Early in the morning, Ms. Lin was attracted by the life gemstone booth and expressed her excitement to the reporter.
The Life Gem comes from a local enterprise in Henan, Luoyang Life Gem Technology Co., Ltd. Unlike natural diamonds grown deep in the Earth’s crust, the diamonds of Life Gem grow in the laboratory, but their physical and chemical properties are consistent. According to the data, in 2023, this company has just completed the research and development of its first fully automated biological carbon extraction equipment.
“After consumers choose the style of jewelry, they can send us the hair. We extract carbon from the hair and cultivate diamond blanks. Through cutting, polishing, and other processes, we make bare diamonds, and finally make them into finished diamond jewelry to send back to customers.” Wang Jing, co-founder of Luoyang Life Gem Technology Co., Ltd., introduced, “The entire cycle takes 40-60 days, and 1 carat of diamond requires about 6 grams of hair.”
The Life Gem team obtained a national invention patent for the carbon extraction process of biological diamond raw materials in 2012. The patented technology is used to extract carbon elements from hair and undergo graphitization treatment. The HTHP technology is used to simulate the high-temperature and high-pressure environment of natural diamonds and grow them into diamond raw materials.
Ms. Lin said, “I have two small dogs, and if I could use another form of keeping pets by my side, I think it would give gemstones a new meaning.”
The Deno exhibition area, not far from the Life Gem exhibition area, has also had a relatively high volume of visitors in the past two days. “Our exhibition area has an average of two to three hundred inquiries per day, and we have already completed dozens of transactions,” Xu Nuo, the supply chain manager of the Dianuo brand, told reporters.
Zhengzhou Abrasive and Grinding Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the Three Grinding Institute) is a pioneer in cultivating diamonds in China. It has successively developed the first artificial diamond, the first cubic boron nitride, and the first cultivated diamond in China. On October 1st last year, Sanmo’s top e-commerce platforms such as Tmall officially launched the high-end cultivation diamond brand Diano and opened an official flagship store to enter the retail market. “As a pioneer in cultivating the diamond industry in China, it is imperative to improve the downstream industry chain to fill the gaps and cultivate one’s own consumer brand,” said Liu Yangyang, the head of the diamond brand cultivated by Sanmo Institute.
“Dianuo is the first cultivated diamond brand in China to focus on the design and development of shaped diamond jewelry products. The price of cultivated diamonds is 1/5 to 1/3 of the price of natural diamonds.” Xu Nuo introduced, “In recent days, our family’s popular necklaces have been selling a lot, such as the Candy Elf series, which combines cute candy elements and is loved by many girls.”
“I have come across a diamond pendant and have already placed an order. It is much more cost-effective than the one I bought before,” said Ms. Hao, the consumer.
Currently, the penetration rate of the global cultivated diamond market is about 10% of that of natural diamonds, and it is expected to maintain rapid growth in the coming years, with huge market potential. Cultivating diamonds as consumer goods has become a trend in the superhard material industry. “Cultivating diamonds can achieve color diversity, color clarity, and size that far exceed natural diamonds. They have very strong plasticity and are indistinguishable in the consumer market,” said Sun Zhaoda, Secretary General of the Superhard Materials Branch of the China Machine Tool Industry Association in an interview.
How to cultivate the future development of diamonds? Reduce costs and increase efficiency, build brand advantages
In addition to numerous diamond brands participating, there is also a special exhibition area at the 2023 Cultivated Diamond Expo – Zhengzhou High tech Zone Exhibition Area. The exhibition area not only showcases the industrial development and talent policies of Zhengzhou High tech Zone, but also showcases the project planning of International Diamond City to the outside world. The first phase of Diamond City covers an area of approximately 80000 square meters, and the second phase covers an area of approximately 110000 square meters. This project brings together two major industries in the high-tech zone: the transformation engine of China’s superhard materials market and the social platform for the creators of the high-tech zone city. The basic content of operation includes industrial market information exchange, academic exchange, diamond jewelry auction/exhibition, diamond appraisal, private diamond customization, etc. It is a window for the marketization of industrial achievements.
Industry companies admit that they also face practical difficulties in the offline sales process. For example, some large shopping malls may not be willing to cultivate diamonds to enter because the brand name of cultivating diamonds is not well-known and there are not many people who know about it. In addition, there may be conflicts of interest with natural diamonds, making it difficult to enter.
“The International Diamond City is a great platform for communication and sales for enterprises that cultivate diamonds. In the next step, we will discuss the specific form of settlement,” said Wang Zhenggang, General Manager of Henan Yichuang Superhard Materials Co., Ltd. and founder of the Huazhiqing brand.
For the future development of Diamond City, Sun Zhaoda suggests highlighting the development of the C-end (client). “We need to change the industrial mindset of upstream driving downstream, and now we should start with consumer goods and use downstream to drive upstream. As long as downstream consumers accept it, the space in this upstream is infinite,” said Sun Zhaoda.
Data shows that from January to August 2023, the year-on-year growth rate of retail sales of cultivated diamonds in the United States was around 50%, and 80% of global cultivated diamond consumption was in the United States. In China, the penetration rate of cultivating diamonds in the retail market has not yet exceeded 2%, and there is great potential for development.
How will cultivating diamonds develop in the future? Zhu Guangyu, founder of Diamond Watch and a senior expert in the diamond jewelry industry, believes that increment and price reduction are two trends. Material price reduction can bring profit space to retail, and increment can achieve supply and demand balance, which is the goal of cultivating the healthy development of the diamond industry.
To cultivate diamond enterprises and reduce costs and increase efficiency, cutting and grinding processing will be an unavoidable part. The 6th Abrasive and Grinding Tool Exhibition, held concurrently with the 2023 Diamond Cultivation Exhibition, is an old brand IP in the industry and has a high influence. It has attracted many leading units in the industry, including National Machinery Precision Industry, Zhongnan Diamond, Yellow River Whirlwind, Sifangda, Zhengzhou Huajing, and others. On site displays were concentrated on grinding processing and related equipment and tools, specialized equipment for manufacturing and testing abrasive tools, abrasive tools and raw materials, and diamond related products for cultivation. At the same time, relevant technical personnel provided on-site operation explanations.
“After filling the material, you only need to press the button, and the machine can produce fully automatically.” In front of the exhibition hall of Zhengzhou Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd., the company’s technical personnel, Song Jianhong, demonstrated the operation steps to on-site customers. It took less than 30 seconds from pressing the button to completing production. “Compared to manual weighing of materials, this SCCZ series bead automatic cold press machine has more accurate automatic weighing and smaller errors.”
Artificial diamond, as a structural material, is mainly used to manufacture various types of diamond tools. Due to its high efficiency, precision, green and environmentally friendly characteristics, it is widely used in key areas of national defense and national economy such as aerospace, automotive, electronic information, etc. It is known as the “teeth of modern industry” and is an essential tool in modern manufacturing.
It is understood that at the beginning of this year, with the approval of the provincial government, Yuzi Holding Group led the establishment of the first provincial-level new materials group in China. It is positioned as the main force for the development of the new materials industry in the province, the main driver for the reconstruction of the advantages of new materials in the province, and the main platform for attracting investment in the new materials industry in the province. Among them, the superhard materials industry is a key area of focus and investment layout, with high-end equipment and functional applications being the focus of the group’s layout and cultivation.
“We are very optimistic about the superhard materials industry and are actively participating in many directions,” said He Xi, Vice Chairman of Henan New Materials Investment Group Co., Ltd. “The direction of cultivating diamonds has also reached a turning point, which is a good time for industry investment to enter.” (Guo Xuru, Lu Jiao)
